Animal Farm

By George Orwell

  1. “Man is the only real enemy we have. Remove Man from the scene, and the root cause of hunger and overwork is abolished for ever.”
  2. “Man is the only creature that consumes without producing.”
  3. “Never listen when they tell you that Man and the animals have a common interest, that the prosperity of the one is the prosperity of the others.”

  • Representative government – the pigs institute themselves in the position of power. Napoleon outs Snowball and assumes control of the military with the dogs.
  • Private property – the pigs take and distribute as they please. The chickens are not entitled to the eggs they produce, just as under Man.
  • Education – only the pigs become educated.
  • Civil liberties – the animals are not permitted to sing Beasts of England.
  • Propaganda – Difficulty of the animals to realize that life is getting worse.
